Why Choose Carlsbad Seaside Academy?

Carlsbad Seaside Academy offers an independent study program that allows students to take core classes online while still being enrolled in their home high school. Whether you’re looking for a full-time alternative or part-time coursework to supplement your schedule, Seaside provides an alternative learning experience with personalized support. Depending on courses a student is enrolled in, students will attend in person classes 2-3 times a week, as well as meeting weekly with their Advisor to review progress. .

How to Enroll

  1. Complete the Intake Form

  1. Schedule a Meeting → After submitting the form, students will meet with the Principal to discuss enrollment.
  2. Plan Your Courses → Work with your home high school counselor to finalize your schedule.

**If you are not currently a Carlsbad Unified student but plan to enroll for 2025-26, you should still submit the form.**

Academics Available via Seaside

  • Full-Time Enrollment: Complete your core classes (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) through Seaside, while still having the option to take electives, foreign languages, or AP courses at your home high school.

    Part-Time Enrollment: Take up to two courses through Seaside while remaining enrolled at Carlsbad High School or Sage Creek High School.

    College Opportunities: Students can also enroll in courses at local community colleges for additional learning opportunities.

    • Core Courses (CP Level, A-G Approved):
      • English: English 9, English 10, English 11, English 12
      • Math: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2
      • Science: Biology, Chemistry 
      • Social Studies: World History, U.S. History, Government, Economics
    • Course Platform: All core courses are delivered through Edgenuity, a self-paced, independent study program.

    In-Person Requirements: Math and Science students must attend weekly in-person class sessions.

  • 📌 Independent Study Workload: Students should expect to complete 3-5 hours of work per week for each Seaside class.

    Sports & Extracurriculars

    🏆 Student-Athletes: Seaside students can continue playing sports at their home high school per CIF bylaws.

  • Can I take electives at Seaside?
    We offer core courses PE 1 and 2 and Graphic Design. 
  • Electives, AP courses, and foreign languages should be taken at your home high school or a community college.
     
  • How does the Edgenuity platform work?
    Edgenuity is an online curriculum designed for independent study. Students complete lessons, assignments, and quizzes online.  Students come to campus to take unit tests and final exams.  Students taking a lab science or a math class are required to attend a weekly full class meeting. 
  • How do I stay on track?
    Students receive weekly check-ins from teachers and must complete a certain percentage of coursework each week to stay on pace.
